Ms. Lisa Barr's Biography
HELLO! My name is Lisa Barr and I am currently an Inclsuion 6th - 8th Grade Special Education teacher at Whitehall-Coplay Middle School. I had taught emotional support for six years in a self-contained classroom and recently moved to Inclusion for the second half of this school year.
My educational background comes from Bloomsburg University. At the University I obtained my Bachelor's of Science in Education Degree in 2010. I am certified to teach grades Kindergarten through 6th grade. After I graduated I was a substitute teacher for several years. I started to substitute in special education classrooms and enjoyed working with special needs students. I decided that I wanted to go back to school for my special education certification. In 2014, I started to attend West Chester University and completed the certification program in 2016. After I finished the certification program, I decided to get my masters degree in Master of Education from West Chester University. I am currently looking into several doctoral programs to further my knowledge to better help serve my current students and future students to come.
I chose to become a teacher to help make a difference in students' lives. It is important for students to have positive role models in their lives. I personally had a rough upbringing and had no one to turn to. I want to be the person students can turn to for help and guidance. It is important for me to help students form positive self-esteem, to recognize their potential, and to help them succeed in not just school, but also every life skills.
My main goal as a teacher is to provide my students with an enriching education and foster a sense of confidence where they are able to identify their inner strengths and in time, instill motivation through goal-setting activities, which ultimately leads to their success. As an educator, I strive to create a learning environment for my students' success and growth. Most recently I became a trained professional in Classroom Restorative Practices, which was additionally a key research focal point throughout my Master’s Program. These educational experiences have given me the ability to grow as a teacher and help each student individually based on their internal and external needs. I am very passionate about integrating these methods into my classroom
